MWCO:

Pierce Crossflow Cassettes are membrane-based devices designed for concentrating and diafiltration of sample solutions such as proteins, lipids, viruses, and cell culture supernatants with volumes from 0.50–3 L. Suited for manufacturing and pilot-scale tangential flow filtration processes.

Pierce Crossflow Cassettes are designed for easy setup, flexibility, and robust performance. They can process sample solutions ranging from 0.5 to 3 liters in volume and operate via a peristaltic pump pressure-driven process where the sample solution containing solutes are pushed tangentially across the surface of a specialized Polyethersulfone (PES) membrane with low protein binding characteristics. The membrane surface per device is 200 cm2 and is offered in five different molecular-weight cutoffs (MWCOs) of 3, 10, 30, 50, and 100 kDa, providing a range of options to suit various needs.

Thermo Scientific Pierce Crossflow Filtration Cassettes are membrane-based devices designed for small-volume manufacturing and pilot-scale tangential flow filtration (TFF) of biological samples. They feature easy setup, optimal flexibility, and robust performance. These cassettes can process sample solution volumes of 0.5–3 liters and operate via a peristaltic pump pressure-driven process where the sample solution is pushed tangentially across the surface of a specialized polyethersulfone (PES) membrane.

Features of Pierce Crossflow Filtration Cassettes include:
• Designed for small-volume manufacturing and pilot-scale TFF applications
• Reusable without membrane replacement
• Fully assembled with easy setup requiring no holder
• High flow rate and sample recovery
• Low cost of operation

Pierce Crossflow Filtration Cassettes contain a PES membrane with low protein binding characteristics and have a specialized channel design that ensures high flux without optimization. The membrane has a surface area of 200 cm2 and the option of five different molecular-weight cutoffs (MWCOs): 3, 10, 30, 50, and 100 kDa. The membrane has small pores, preventing the passage of larger molecules like proteins that are retained in the flow feed path while smaller molecules like salts pass through, causing a decrease in solution volume and an increase in macromolecule concentration.

Pierce Crossflow Filtration Cassettes are easily cleaned and reusable. Each cassette can concentrate up to 1 liter of sample by a factor of >50 in 30 minutes or less. Two cassettes can be connected and run in parallel using a Y connector to scale and speed up the process. In this way, up to 6L of sample can be processed.

Each cassette includes all necessary accessories required for running the cassette with a laboratory peristaltic pump and a size 16 pump head. To make the buffer exchange process more convenient, a sealed diafiltration reservoir accessory can be used to help speed up the process.

Pierce Crossflow Filtration Cassettes are designed for small-volume manufacturing and pilot-scale TFF applications in diverse biological and biopharmaceutical processes, such as concentration and diafiltration of proteins, lipids, viruses, colloids, and cell culture supernatants.  The cassettes deliver efficient performance due to their high crossflow speed and low pump speed requirement.
