The Evidence, The Experience, The Future
Join our upcoming PACE-accredited webinar to learn how pharmacogenomics (PGx) is being used in the modern laboratory, and how real-time PCR is used to investigate pharmacogenomics mutations.
Pharmacogenomics research is rapidly becoming an important tool in the field of precision medicine: With almost 25% of all available medications on the market having identified pharmacogenomic links, this area of genetics study is becoming much more common in laboratories across the world. But what are the benefits of implementing molecular pharmacogenomics testing in a laboratory, and how much effort is required to do so?
Learning Objectives
This timely online presentation will help participants:
- Comprehend the basics of pharmacogenomics
- Understand how pharmacogenomics is implemented in a laboratory
- Learn how to put pharmacogenomic information to practical use
Presenters

Grace M. Kuo, PharmD, MPH, PhD, FCCP
Professor of Clinical Pharmacy, Associate Dean for Strategic Planning and Program Development, UC San Diego
Dr. Grace Kuo is Professor of Clinical Pharmacy, Family Medicine and Public Health at the University of California San Diego. As a pharmacist health services researcher, she devotes her efforts in practice-based research that focuses on medication safety and medication therapy management. Dr. Kuo and her team worked with experts and national leaders to develop and administer the national pharmacogenomics education program (PharmGenEd).

Doug Rains
Chief Scientific Officer, Quantigen
Doug Rains spent the beginning of his career in molecular genetics labs, first as part of the human genome project at Washington University Medical School, and later in cancer research laboratories in Texas. He also served as a field applications specialist for Applied Biosystems/Thermo Fisher Scientific and, more recently, as the director of genetic testing at Quantigen, where he supervised the implementation of pharmacogenetic testing in several client laboratories. Doug is also a consultant for Thermo Fisher Scientific.

Rick Shigaki
Director of Business Development, Translational Software
Rick Shigaki has held business development and sales management positions in various healthcare fields for the past two decades. Much of that time was spent at Pfizer, where he was part of a team that developed and implemented medication adherence programs. Rick also worked with startup healthcare companies where he developed a pharmacy quality program to assist in the clinical adoption of pharmacogenetic testing. His current employer, Translational Software, is a leader in delivering clinically relevant PGx information to providers.
