Electrical Heating Mantles with Controllers
Electrical heating mantles with controller include a controller device to regulate the uniform distribution of heat on laboratory glassware such as round-bottomed flasks. With expansive temperature exposure ranges available, the controller is used to increase temperature or maintain a constant process temperature on flask.
Electrical heating mantles with controllers are available in two configurations: as a single unit comprised of a mantle and integrated controller, or as a separate mantle and controller that are sold together. Common uses are boiling, distillation, extraction, and digestion.
Mantles with chamber linings that are soft-sided and flexible in shape can accommodate irregularly shaped glassware like round-bottomed flasks. Others have a more-defined shape that can be used only with straight-sided vessels, like beakers.
Electrical heating mantles may also include a number of safety features:
- Exterior
- Plastic-coated or chemical-resistant metal housing to minimize damage from spills
- Heat-resistant polypropylene housing to protect users from accidental burns
- Electrical systems
- Separate individual power controllers for each recess
- Thermally insulated and grounded
- Automatic shut-off when contact with liquid is detected
- Heating elements are insulated to prevent accidental contact
Electrical heating mantles may include a magnetic stirring feature to simultaneously mix and heat, with places for optional support rods to which clamps and other apparatuses may be attached. Indicator lights can show on-off status or may warn about residual heat after the units are turned off.

Glas-Col Heating Mantle Top, 3000mL Capacity, 200 Watts. This Glas-Col mantle helps prevent vapor condensation in the upper half of a flask during distillation of high-boiling materials. The top is designed for use with CG-11000, CG-12000 or CG-125000 mantles. It protects the flask, the solutions, and the laboratory in these ways: 1) from stray drafts, which would disturb the reflux ratio during fractionation; 2) from flying glass of flask implosions in high-vacuum distillations; 3) from falling objects; and, 4) from thermal strain between top and lower half of flask during high-temperature operations. With a glass-fabric construction and laced-side opening, its elliptical hole accommodates a 1, 2, and 3-neck flask. All mantles are 115 Volts with the exception of the 72 Liter which is 230 Volt, and have a 4 foot, 2 wire cord with locking connector.

1000mL Glas-Col Heating Mantle, Series M, Spherical, 380 Watts. The Glas-Col Series M mantle is the most compact mantle with an aluminum shell that can heat flasks up to 72 liters. Like the series TM, this mantle has a durable aluminum housing outside and resilient glass fabric inside to support flasks and protect flask walls from thermal strain. The internal operating temperature is 450 C. Only the bottom of the flask is covered so the contents being heated are fully visible. The mantle is grounded through the aluminum housing and requires a support such as CG-11004 through CG-11008. All mantles are 115 Volt and are supplied with a detachable 4 foot, 3 wire cord.
