Galanthus nivalis lectin (GNL) preferentially binds to structures containing (a-1,3) mannose residues, such as many viral glycoproteins, most notably the gp120 coat protein of HIV. Unlike most mannose-specific lectins, GNL is not a metalloprotein and does not require Ca++ or Mn++ for binding. Binding is preferentially directed toward structures containing (α-1,3) mannose residues. Also in contrast to most mannose-binding lectins, GNL will not bind α-linked glucose. GNL binds to rat and mouse IgM but not IgG. The only human serum protein reported to bind to this lectin is α2-macroglobulin.

Lotus tetragonolobus lectin (LTL) encompasses a family of closely related glycoproteins with similar specificities toward α-linked L-fucose-containing oligosaccharides. Although many of the binding properties of Lotus lectin are similar to those of Ulex europaeus lectin I (UEL I), the binding affinities and some specificities for oligosaccharides are significantly different between these fucose-specific lectins. This fluorescein-labeled LTL features a ratio of fluorophores to lectin protein that provides optimal staining (excitation 495 nm, emission 515 nm). Supplied as a solution essentially free of unconjugated fluorophores, it is preserved with sodium azide. The recommended inhibiting/eluting sugar is 50-100 mM L-fucose.

Phaseolus vulgaris agglutinin (PHA) is a family of lectins, each consisting of four subunits. There are two different types of subunits: the "E" subunit (for erythroagglutinin) is involved primarily in red cell agglutination, and the "L" subunit (for lymphocyte) is involved in lymphocyte agglutination and mitogenic activity. These subunits combine to produce five isolectins. PHA-L has four "L" type subunits, does not agglutinate red cells, but is a potent mitogen. It is a specific marker for use in anterograde neuronal tracing. This fluorescein-labeled PHA-L features a ratio of fluorophores to lectin protein that provides optimal staining (excitation 495 nm, emission 515 nm). Supplied as a solution essentially free of unconjugated fluorophores, it is preserved with sodium azide. The recommended inhibiting/eluting sugar is 100 mM acetic acid.

Sambucus nigra lectin, isolated from elderberry bark, binds preferentially to sialic acid attached to terminal galactose in α-2,6 and to a lesser degree, α-2,3 linkage. Binding is also inhibited to some extent by lactose or galactose. This lectin appears to bind sialic acid linked to N-acetylgalactosamine or galactose. SNA has been reported to inhibit cell-free protein synthesis. 2mg; Solution: 10 mM HEPES, 0.15 M NaCl, pH 7.5, 0.08% sodium azide, 0.1 mM CaCl2.

Tomato lectin (from Lycopersicon esculentum) is an effective marker of blood vessels and microglial cells in rodents. Conjugation of the lectin with a fluorophore facilitates fast, one-step detection and visualization using intravascular perfusion methods or direct application to tissue sections. Fluorescent dye-labeled tomato lectin is a valuable tool for studying rodent tumor angiogenesis, tracing neovascular development in xenograft models and brain research. DyLight 594-labeled tomato lectin emits in red and is an excellent second label in systems with green/yellow fluorescence such as GFP expressed in transgenic animals, or with fluorescein conjugates in standard double-label studies. Excitation maximum: 592 nmEmission maximum: 617 nmColor: Red. Inhibiting/Eluting Sugar: Chitin Hydrolysate

Lens culinaris agglutinin (LCA) contains two subunits of 17 kDa and two of 8 kDa. It has a narrower specificity than ConA because it recognizes sequences containing α-linked mannose residues and other sugars as part of the receptor structure. An α-linked fucose attached to the N-acetylchitobiose of the core oligosaccharide enhances affinity. The narrower specificity allows subfractionation of glycoproteins and -peptides after initial isolation with Con A. LCA prevents skin allograft rejection and can purify numerous glycoproteins, including immunoglobulins, histocompatibility antigens, and α2-macroglobulin. This unconjugated form is supplied as a solution preserved with sodium azide. The recommended inhibiting/eluting sugar is a mixture of 200 mM α-methylmannoside/200 mM α-methylglucoside.
